Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I access my instructor's recordings?

A: You can search for your instructor's recordings at gauchocast.hosted.panopto.com. You can search for your instructor's folder or a specific recording using keywords (e.g. "EEMB 101" or "Wednesday Lecture"). If your professor has set up a Panopto block on Gauchospace, you can find links to the most recent recordings on the Gauchospace course page.

Q: How soon will my instructor's recordings be available after class?

A: Each recording will be available approximately one hour after class. However, your professor can change the availability of videos. If you cannot view a recording that your instructor has made available, please contact help@id.ucsb.edu. For quicker service, make sure to include: the course subject, the course number, and the name of your instructor in your inquiry.

Q: I found the recording I want to watch, but it won't play. Why won't it play in my internet browser?

A: Gauchocast is hosted on a separate entity than GauchoSpace. Clicking on the video link from GauchoSpace, via the Panopto block in GauchoSpace, will help establish your permission to view the video. Once permission is established for the course folder, you should be able to access the remaining videos directly. Consult this link for a few other suggestions.

Q: Is it possible to view my instructor's recordings on my iPhone or iPad?

A: Yes. There is a Panopto app that is available for free in the app store. If you choose to download this app to your phone you will be prompted to enter a server address. The server address you need is:
gauchocast.hosted.panopto.com

Once you enter the correct address choose to log in with Gauchospace. You can log in with your UCSBnetID.

Q: Is it possible to view my instructor's recordings on my Android or Windows phone?

A: Yes. Use your phone's internet browser to access gauchocast.hosted.panopto.com

Q: Do you have any tips for navigating my instructor's recording?

A: Of course! If your instructor used PowerPoint the Panapto Recorder software will make headers for each slide in the presentation. Simply click on the slide you want to fast forward the recording. You can also make notes as you watch the recording to. You can add a note at a specific point in the lecture and reference back to the note when you need it. If you write helpful notes you won't have to sift through several minutes of a recording to find the information you need. You can also search a recording using keywords (e.g. "Summary" or "Final").
